Welcome
The National Aviation Heritage Skills Initiative is a pioneering partnership project between the British Aviation Preservation Council (BAPC) and the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford. Its aim is to provide volunteers working at BAPC member organisations with training in the basic skills needed to preserve the nations prestigious non-flying aviation collections.
- Available FREE OF CHARGE to volunteers at any BAPC member organisation
- Training can be given at IWM Duxford or any suitable BAPC organisation across the UK
- The training has been accredited by City & Guilds and the English Reional Tourist Boards
- Currently (Jan 2010) 793 volunteers, from 35 BAPC Organisations, registered with the project.
NEWS - Update for Jan 2010 - NEWS
The NAHSI programme has now been running since June 2005. The current funding arrangements with the Heritage Lottery Fund will come to end in December 2010. The BAPC is attempting to raise replacement funding to ensure the long term future of the project but at this time there is nothing new to report.
In order to get as many volunteers as possible through the training programme the BAPC Steering Committee has decided that, with immediate effect, no more bookings will be taken for the 'Introduction to Aviation Heritage' module. All future efforts will be placed on volunteers who have already registered with the project.
