Module C5 - Fabric Repairs

Pre-requisite Knowledge/Experience

1. Module F1 - Introduction to Aviation Heritage

2. Module C1 - Aircraft Structures

3. Module C3 - Wooden Aircraft Repairs

Location

Any BAPC organisation with suitable facilities

Class Size

Maximum of four (4) volunteers per session

Applicability

Any volunteer in the aviation heritage sector.

Course Aim

To provide volunteers with the necessary knowledge to carry out basic repairs to fabric covered aircraft.

Content

Health & Safety implications.
Reconise the different fabrics used on heritage aircraft.
Basic repair techniques and tooling.
Purpose of stringing (or lacing)
Basic knowledge of hand sewing & tying locking knots.
Principle of applying dope to fabric covereed aircraft.

Assessment

Assessment will be carried out by means of a question paper containing Multiple Choice Questions. The pass mark shall be 80%.

All volunteers may choose whether or not to undergo assessment. Anyone opting for the package will be required to pay a £5.00 registration fee, payable to City & Guilds, for each certificate awarded.
