Maximum of four (4) volunteers per session

Applicability

All volunteers in the Aviation Heritage sector

Course Aim

To introduce experienced volunteers to the use of pneumatic rivetting tools. To further develop their metal working skills and practise some advanced techniques.

Content

Health & Safety implications
Conservation documentation
Use of riveting hand tools:

  • Countersinking tools
  • Pneumatic riveting gun
  • Rivet sets (dollies)
  • Riveting blocks (Bucking bars)
  • Pop riveting pliers

Select and form rivets correctly.
Recognise and replace badly formed rivets.
Conservation issues.

Assessment

Assessment shall be carried out by means of workshop based practical exercises and an assessment paper containing Multiple Coice Questions. The pass mark shall be 80%.

All volunteers may choose whether or not to undergo assessment. Anyone opting for the package will be required to pay a £5.00 registration fee, payable to City & Guilds, for each certificate awarded.
